If you like teppanyaki, sashimi, nigiri, specialty rolls, sake, and a personable staff, this place delivers. The host Jason is an absolute pleasure, and I suspect he may also be a part time comedian or entertainer of some sort. We laughed, we ate, we enjoyed sake libations that paired perfectly with our meal, and the ice cream shop next door offers discounts on desert if you show them your receipt. The dinner boat comes with a substantial amount of food that easily feeds 2-3 people ($68) and the lolipop roll ($20 cucumber wrapped seafood bomb the size of your palm) is a personal favorite. My wife and I have paid this location two visits so far and have decided this will now be part of our regular date night rotation. The service was outstanding and our servers Tina and Andy are deserving of thanks for their attentiveness and hospitality. With respect to cooked dishes, I was impressed with the grilled calamari and medium rare teriyaki beef/steak. The steak was tender, the calamari soft, and nothing was chewy or ill prepared. Honorable mention goes to the fried rice, which was well seasoned and surprisingly flavorful. If you're in Orange and looking for a good vibe and great eats, show Tabi-Ji some love.
Royce and Raymond were spectacular! Meat was perfectly cooked and we loved the hibachi experience for my husband's birthday. The grand slam was the host singing happy birthday with perfect pitch! Thank you TABI-ji we will definitely be returning.
Andy was amazzzzzzzinngggggggggg!!!!!! Jason was HILARIOUS and such a good host. Would definitely come back what a great at Atmosphere
Came here to celebrate a birthday dinner. Raymond and Jose made it one of the best experiences. We had such a great time. We will be back for the 20th time.
Noriko was such an excellent server and super kind! The food was awesome and I can't wait to come back and try their rolls! I got the tabiji special with filet mignon and scallops with the fried rice
Everything was awesome Raymond and Royce were awesome! Best birthday ever! Will be back with more people for sure! Thank you for a very enjoyable experience
I have lived within 2 miles of this restaurant for five years, and have not visited it until I have family come in from the state of Iowa! What a great experience, why did I wait so long? The food was delicious, my adventurous husband and my brother-in-law both loved everything they ordered and my NOT adventurous sister-in-law was able to find lots of things she liked as well. I ordered the Sandy special, which was light and refreshing and delicious. Super fresh fish, super flavorful, I would definitely order it again. Our server was Jenny, and all of the staff there was attentive. Jason, the host and first person you see when you come in, was extremely warm, welcoming, and entertaining and a wonderful asset to this restaurant. Atip for new customers, make a reservation if you want to sit at a teppan table. Or, if you end up sitting at a regular table, you won't get the show, but you WILL get a beautifully arranged plate served to you where everything is hot and ready to eat at the same time. Not a bad trade-off!
Went to celebrate my son's birthday. So fun. Chefs Raymond and Richard were amazing. Food was amazing.
Where do we even start. I love how this is authentically Japanese owned and has been a family business since the 70s. I cannot express how amazing the staff are. Michelle was attentive, kind and pleasant as our server. You must ask for her when you come in. Jason I have no clue what his role is but he feels like the face of Tabi-Ji and is such a blast. I would definitely hang out with these two if I get a chance. I always order nigiri and not much of a roll person so my review will be mainly that type of sushi. You know how you normally dip the sushi in soy sauce well not here folks. The rice is perfectly seasoned and has enough of a salt profile to go perfectly with the seafood item of your choice, it reminds me of onigiri rice. They have the perfect amount of wasabi, grated ginger or whatever compliments your fish. You can just pop one in your mouth and you know it will be the perfect bite. The wife gets their sukiyaki combo and I just love the fried rice they have because it's the same rice as the tepanyaki, the amount of butter on it is so damn good. The amount of food you get for the combo is a ton and well worth it. Also, by far our favorite sukiyaki is from here. As part of the combo meal you get your choice of soup and a salad. I can't decide if I like the miso soup or their clear broth better. Someone will have to comment here and tell me what you think or prefer? As for appetizers we get the calamari and it comes in perfect little chunks. I can't wait to come back, please have ankimo again
We used to go to Tabi-Ji's in Anaheim when we were kids. Imagine my surprise when I found out that they had a location in Orange. I live in San Diego but I still have family in Orange County. I told them all about it and we all went to Tabi-Ji's. I made reservations on line and because there were 6 of us, I did have to use a credit card. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. This restaurant also has a couple of hibachi tables if you want that. We were there for the authentic Japanese food. We are all Japanese Americans so our expectations are a little higher. Not a lot just a little. Haha. I ordered the teriyaki scallops and tempura. All of our meals were served with authentic miso soup, sunomono, and salad(with the good ginger dressing). The tempura was fresh, crispy, and delicious. The scallops were so good. My 97 year old Auntie ordered Futomaki and she said it was so good. She makes Futomaki so that's a compliment. My 89 year old mother enjoyed her tempura too. Overall everyone enjoyed all of their meals. We were telling our server that we used to go to the restaurant when they were in Anaheim. She told the owner Mr. Yamamoto and he came out to meet us. He was the nicest guy. He asked us if we liked Tsukomono (salt pickled cabbage). Of course we do, and it was delicious. Everyone there was so nice, we will be back!
